Consider noise levels in the toys you’re buying while holiday shopping this year…

This is a great article discussing the noise levels of toys.

An ear nose and throat specialist bought the loudest toys he could find, and measured their outputs using a sound level meter.  More than two dozen toys make noise at 85dB, a level loud enough to cause permanent hearing damage over eight hours.

Even more concerning, the Space Raider Glow Space Gun measured in at 115dB!  That is comparable to a rock concert, and can cause irreversible damage in as little as 30 seconds.

Things to consider:

You can download an app on your phone to measure the output of a toy in the store before you buy it.  Or, if your kid has his or her heart set on a certain toy with an inappropriate noise level, consider muting the speaker with some tape or glue.
